Lord Of This Sabbath

Lord of this Sabbath,
Divine day of rest,
Who for six days did work,
The worlds with good zest:

Come now and give us,
Within these poor chests,
That bright mystic sweetness,
And peace You call blessed.

For on seventh day,
Your work You did stop,
Its fruit to enjoy,
Your great cosmic crop.

And on seventh day,
Your Son lay behind rock,
His body to rest,
Having purchased His flock.

Please give us His rest,
For You fulfilled old design:
Christ burst forth from the grave,
The first Lord’s Day to sign.

Come, come now our Father,
This first day of the week,
Your New Creation,
Is what we now seek.

May we see in the heavens,
And at Your right hand,
The One Who has entered,
The restful Canaan.

The faithful High Priest,
The incarnate Rest,
In Christ's wounds we are certain
We'll be ever blessed.

So help us to push,
Every worry aside,
Be filled with Your goodness-
For to work may be pride.

And help us discern,
What is right, fit, and proper,
For as Lord of the Sabbath,
There's so much that You offer.
